Suolun Fm
Type Locality and Naming
The type section is located in the Beisuolun-Haihelemen to the west of Ulanhot City, Inner Mongolia; and the reference section is situated in the Xichulutu area 9.5 km to the west of the Mengjiu Mt. It was named by Ohayashi Sada-Ichi in 1931.
Lithology and Thickness
Clastics. Lower metamorphosed sandstone member of the formation is composed of yellow-green and yellow-grey metamorphosed siltstone, feldspar-quartz-sandstone and greywacke, intercalated with slate. In the South Hills of the Xichulutu area the basal part of the formation consisting of grey-black metamorphosed siltstone. Upper slate member of the formation is composed of black-grey thin-bedded slate, intercalated with metamorphosed siltstone and marl lenses. The clayey slates in its basal and upper parts containing phosphoric concretions. It is over 908 m thick.
Relationships and Distribution
Lower contact
Conformable contact with the underlying Wujiatun Fm in the South Hills of the Xichulutu area.
Upper contact
Unconformable contact with the Middle Jurassic Series in the South Hills of the Xichulutu area.
Regional extent
Distributed in the Suolun Army Horse-breeding Farm, Suolun, Jingyang Village, Chulutu and Naoniu Mt. areas of Ulanhot City.

Fossils
Yields Bivalve fossils such as Palaeomutela soronensis, P. khinganensis, P. lunulata, Palaeanodonta, Aviculopecten, Crenipecten soronensis; and Plant fossils (phytolites) such as Callipteris, Comia, Compsopteris, Supaia, Zamiopteris, Noeggerathiopsis, Pecopteris.
